Turning off your business at 5:30 – 7:00 (or later)

Joe and I began Nine Lives Media Inc. one week ago today.  Although there are still many details to work out – there is one that is non-negotiable. Both Joe and I are married (not to each other) with young children (he has three, I have two) and we both love to spend time with our families.  We look forward to the flexibility that having our own business offers.  So, I’ll share with you the first rule in the Nine Lives Media Inc. company handbook.

Company Rule #1.  TURN OFF YOUR COMPUTER (or at least leave your office) at 5:30pm.  Amazingly, it will still be there at 7 or 8 pm.It’s dinnertime, playtime, homework time, bath time, bedtime – family bonding time.  I have been testing Joe to make sure he is adhering to company policy, because I am confident that once he gets the hang of it, he’ll enjoy it.

If you are a small business owner, how you do accomplish a work/life balance?
