My typical Sunday involves six to eight hours of watching football. But on this particular Sunday, Amy and I were trading voice mail about a piece of our business that’s nothing less than critical: Our online ad server. How’s the ad server working so far? (Answer: Very well.) And will it scale to handle several new advertisers? (Answer: Yes.)
Frankly, I’m not sure our ad-driven blogs would have been possible two or three years ago. Generally speaking, open source blog platforms (like ours) and advertising servers are relatively new partners. Most standalone blogs lack advertising. Some carry Google Adwords. Our WordPress blog platforms (The VAR Guy and MSPmentor) require a full-blown ad server to organize and manage ads, impressions, click-throughs, etc. Read the rest of this entry »
